The ice machine drowned out any dinner time conversation we could have had. It was extremely loud. My order was not delivered like I ordered it. We shared a few meals and needed extra plates, that we had to get from the salad bar because no one ever brought them. The meat was over done dry and not very good. It was in the smoker way to long, and I love a good smoked piece of meat. Our first time and we won't be back. We really wanted a good BBQ restaurant. Support local. But this was a sad example of local. Also the restaurant could use some Major sprucing up. The wood paneling plastic is falling off the walls. Only good thing about the restaurant was the fried green tomatoes. They were good. So if you decide to go there against my poor review, order those. Those are the best part of the "BBQ" restaurant. It's not a good example of southern BBQ.

Old restaurant but food was good! We ordered the picnic for two and could not finish it. Way too much food.

After a long day at Legoland, myself, my 5-year-old, my mother and my aunt hungrily staggered in. We were greeted by the friendly hostess who promptly seated us. It's a Monday night and the park hadn't closed yet, so it was fairly empty. The kid got her usual chicken tenders with fries, mother got bbq chicken, aunt got grilled tilapia, and I got pulled pork. All fantastic. All plates licked clean. The fifth star was lost due to mediocre salad bar and bland corn on the cob. Waitress was incredibly nice as well.

Ribs were awesome! We came here because of the other yelp reviews, we were not disappointed! On Mondays kids eat free! We showed up after a long day at legoland with our 3 hungry, rowdy kids and it didn't phase them. The chicken was a little dry and the salad bar was ok which is why I didn't give a 5 star. Go check them out.

Not terrible but not fabulous either. Beer is warm, bbq had no flavor needed bbg sauce for flavor, sides tasted like they were from a can, and meat was over cooked. Baked beans were the best and the homemade onion rings were great but other than that I would pass.

Good BBQ, selection of sides, service, and prices. Corn Popper's were tasty balls of heaven. They were delicious. The ribs and BBQ sauce to go along were definitely delicious as well. The Mac and cheese was a bit to thick and salty for my taste, seemed like it was sitting around for awhile. Apple sauce was decent, seemed generic so No big wow. Definitely a local mom and pop restaurant , Southern Comfort BBQ food.

I'm visiting from Texas. I haven't had BBQ since I arrived. My co workers and I decided to try this restaurant out. I'm open to BBQ styles but it didn't turn out so well. The was much older place and it appeared to have been there for a while. I was hoping that this would be it, the one old bbq place that was great. Unfortunately, it wasn't and things went down hill when another party had to leave due to the wait. I do give perks to the waitress she was great however the 45+ minute wait for smoked meats and sides was unacceptable. BBQ is normally a quick hitter even if there is a large crowd. I tried the ribs along with mac/cheese and the beans. Instead of canceling our order, we took it to go. The sides were crammed in the same storage containers that the sauce was in and the ribs were dry and not very flavorful. It appeared to be old meat as well. I think they could do great things if they tried, however they need to work on getting the food out sooner. Sadly, we won't be returning.

Check out the 'Picnic for 2'. Ribs, Chicken, under the bread are slices of beef, turkey, and pork. The BBQ is legit. Sauce is great. Old-school joint. Nice people.

Vey good bbq. We got the pulled pork with fries and baked beans. Also got a side of mac and cheese. Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. The sauces were good as well. We went at dinner time and it wasn't very busy at all which made us nervous but im glad we stopped here to eat. Restaurant was very clean and the service was good. Too bad I havent found a place in Tampa like this.

This is the best BBQ place I have found in Florida. The smokey smell out of the window when you walk in gives you the idea of what you are dealing with. The staff is always personable and nice. It is nice to have a family restaurant in town. The Breakfast is excellent and reasonably priced. I tell everyone I can to stop in and try it for themselves.

Food was good, great location with it being close to the park! I reccomend it for families with kids of any age. Also the all you can eat daily specials aren't that bad. They do have several beers in tap and bottled. The pies are homemade, and very good!

We go here about every 2-3 weeks and order the family meal and salad bar. The food comes fairly fast but sometimes is a little dry. Sauces are so-so. The salad bar is simple but actually has good variety. I wish it were a little cleaner. Everyone is friendly.

This was a terrible place and was shocked at the high ratings. My family waited 40 minutes for food that had been cooking all day. When it got to the table it was cold so it had clearly been sitting on the counter for a while. BBQ ribs were ok, the sliced meats looked like deli counter meat smoked in a smoker for a couple of hours. All was very dry. Corn was watery. Salad bar containers do not appear to have been cleaned out recently. We will never go back.

On a 4 day trucking lay over I walked across the street and was waited on by a memorable figured blonde named Stacy that offered just the right amount of service. She didn't bother me too much, she worked her filling area and seems to give you the right amount of eye contact and no signs of an attitude. Good service! I ordered the beef & pork lunch and was surprised to see the meat deli sliced thin and the cold slaw in an untraditional mind-set mix. The slaw dressing was a good departure from KFC's mix with a hint of hours radish that's not over powering but noticable. The three different BBQ sauces I tried was okay, house sweet and hot. The hot was that for me as a person that appreciates hotness but my stomach dosent. The beef was cooked nice yet as I read on other reviews the pork was dry. The thing with pork is that it needs to be cooked more then beef and depending on where you get your cut the moistness or dry will be diferent. A Corona, plate at $8 and a $5 tip I was out pleased for $15 total.

Very tasty but wish the meat was juicier. Given it was the middle of the week when we went and it was mostly empty I think the BBQ we were served spent too time under the heat lamps. No frills eatery. I would go back only on a busier night when the food is fresh off the grill.

Wish I could give more stars...long story short...went for lunch, everything was delicious(pulled pork+salad bar). Last few bites left, found a dead June bug in the pork. Brought to waitress attention, she apologized, took meal off bill...no mgr visit,(was not on duty)...no offer to get info to call back...made it seem like a norm. Food was excellent up until that point....

Food was delicious. They let you order a lunch portion at dinner, which is nice. We called ahead to make reservations for a party of 12. The restaurant was empty. Our table was all set up for us, but much too crowded, so we expanded to a second table. Our orders were taken quickly, drinks came, and then we waited. And waited. Our food didn't come out for nearly an hour. ??? Don't take a large crowd!

Good price, food and service. The have great specials and the BBQ is old school smoked to perfection. BBQ chicken and ribs are my favorite.

Don't go for the ambiance, but the food is good! Took a group of 20 and had a great time. The waitress was busy but handled everything quite well and was upbeat, fun, and personable. The food was good enough that I will go back. The sauces were what I would term KC style. Thick red sauces that stuck to the food. The hot one had a good kick, the sweet one had a great flavor that wasn't overwhelmed by sweetness and their original was my personal favorite with a good smoky flavor. The ribs were juicy and of course, fall off the bone tender. The salad bar was a notch above basic and the food on it was fresh. The sides were not their strongest point as they were rather small servings and not quite as good as their meats. The place looks very dated and has some obvious wear around the edges, but your coming here for a decent meal at a good price and you will get that! All-in-all, I will return.

This is an example of a well done barbecue joint - not just the fact that it's quality barbecue but because the people here genuinely care about their customers. About once a month my office will splurge on one of their family picnics and they take incredibly good care of us, making sure we have every little thing we need. One of the hidden gems of winter haven, and definitely a place to check out if you're in town to visit the park.

If you're a BBQ aficionado, Schack's will seem "just okay". There's really nothing here, be it sides or main dishes, that stand out as extra delicious, or are memorable. But the people are VERY nice, provide great service, and this would be a decent place to take the family.

There are two ways I could possibly review Schack's Bar-B-Que. One is as a regular restaurant you might visit under normal, everyday circumstances. I don't feel qualified to review it in that way. But the second way is after six hours at Legoland, with a family that is double-burnt by both sun and sensory overload; hungry and thirsty; wishing desperately for something good that is very, very close by (as in a 2-minute drive). So we wound up at Schack's because of Yelp. And within 20 minutes I was eating a half rack of ribs with mashed potatoes, string beans and garlic bread ($9.50 lunch special that they still let me order at dinner time) and an ice cold beer that was served with an even icier cold mug. Reviewed from this perspective, Schack's is a miracle oasis with great food that exceeded every expectation. And we would return in a heartbeat.

A pretty decent BBQ joint in Winter Haven, FL. I'm not a fan of iceberg lettuce, so that's my disclaimer. My mother had that, and I look at it and want to write off a place, hehehehe, but I obviously didn't do that, as I gave it 4 stars. My father had pulled pork and I ordered pork ribs. I had high hopes for beef ribs, but the didn't sell them. Their pork ribs were very good, as was their spicy and sweet bbq sauce. This place was packed to the gills too, but it didn't take too long to get served. So, I recommend the ribs.

Recently moved here from NC and really, really miss the smoked BBQ and beans from our "mountain BBQ's"!......Not to worry - Schack's delivers! Quality and Quantity pork sandwiches AND they serve Pepsi Products!!! I still miss having the baked beans served in a crock....However, if this the only drawback - I can live with it. Yummy food!

Used to go here all the time because it was close to my house. It's kind of a dive-y neighborhood joint which I love. The food is always good and it's kid friendly.

Live music on a saturday night. Friendly and quick service. Ribs were delicious. Order the hush puppies to start.

Visited Schacks this past friday since we had been smelling it every time we exited the gym. We had heard mixed reviews about this place but as I've said in a previous review BBQ is subjective. We ordered the feast for two which consisted of cole slaw, 4 slices of texas toast, 2 side orders either of back potato or mashed potato, ribs, beef, pullled pork, turkey and chicken. I didn't care for the ribs, beef or pulled pork as I thought they were a bit on the dry side.. but the chicken and turkey were awesome. They were full of smokey flavor and were still very moist! We also ordered the cheese curds- also very yummy! Overall I thought this place was pretty good... I probably would head back for the chicken and turkey.
